  • CSCC Mallory Park

The weekend started off with a relaxed start to the day. Late scrutineering made it nice and easy. Until an incorrect sign on ticket meant we were scrutineering twice. A flat battery, lots of pushing. Driving back to scrutineering it a pot hole in the paddock and there was a broken suspension. Nice.

Met some great people. A steward leant us a welder and a fellow racer fixed the suspension.

He also turned out to be a nifty racer too. A team that really knew how to go racing.

Sunday morning practice resulted in a clutch problem after just three laps and a position at the back of the grid.

Clutch fixed the race went well. The start was fun, after hardly any running and no racing laps for years it was great to be side-by-side through Goddards. The next few laps were very busy. There was a problem towards the end when she kept jumping out of second. Third in class and ninth overall was the result.

There are a lot of pictures from the official CSCC photographer here.

  • Sixty Years of the SL

The Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart currently has a 60 years of the SL exhibition. Here are some of the cars on display.

After trying alloys to lighten the SL further Mercedes also tried fibreglass. Here is a unique fibreglass example, its paint work isn’t up to usual Mercedes standards!

A replica of the winning 1964 Spa-Sofia-Liege. The original, thought lost, has recently turned up.

What about a fly-by-wire SL. No steering wheel, just use the joysticks! Current road legislation means that there must be a direct link between driver’s control and wheels.

    20120601-200648.jpg
This was not in the museum. Not yet anyway, as it is the latest SL launched in the UK in a few weeks. This is the SL500 and is limited to 155mph.

The classic car show at Woburn Abbey due to take place today and tomorrow has been cancelled due to the recent weather. So here are some photos from a couple of years ago. It rained a little, but there was no mud and no stuck cars.
